Understanding the drivers of poverty

The 4 Ps of poverty reduction: POCKETS - the resources available to households; PROSPECTS - people’s life chances; PREVENTION - stopping people from falling into poverty;PLACES - where people live, their homes and communities

Poverty is real, but not inevitable. The drivers of poverty however are complex and there is no simple, single solution. Poverty reduction requires a comprehensive and coherent effort aimed at tackling the underlying causes.

Risk Solutions, with DecisionLab, are working with the Joseph Rowntree Foundation to help them develop a picture of these underlying causes and how they relate to one another and poverty outcomes. This will:

- help shape conversations about their long-term strategy

- show how modelling, evidence and policy development fit together

- identify gaps in the evidence base, and

- help identify indicators that will provide effective monitors of progress.
